My Tethered Soul book coverMy Tethered Soul (Reaper’s Rite #2) by Dorothy Dreyer

It’s been months since Zadie faced her sister’s Reaper, months during which she’s been under her mentor’s magical protection. But now that she’s turning seventeen, that protection is about to run out.

When dark forces lure Zadie to wander at night, she’s manipulated into committing unspeakable acts. With her friends and family at risk, Zadie must try to use her powers to break free from the Reaper’s grasp, or surrender to the Reaper’s Rite, which can only lead to death.

Can Zadie break free from the Reaper’s grasp, or must she surrender to the Reaper’s Rite?

If you could leave this world for your “book world,” would you?

Only if I had the super powers my main character has.

Titles: do you write the books first and the title comes next or does the title come to you as you write?

For book one in this series, the book came first and the title kind of hit me while I was in the middle of it. For the rest of the series I had the titles in mind before I started writing. There is a book I wrote (not published … yet) that I’ve changed the title of about five times.

Is there something specific you need as you write? Cup of coffee, pen, candy, certain room, etc.

I need quiet—or as close as I can get to quiet in my house. A cup of coffee helps, but is not necessary if I’ve already had my morning hazelnut-flavored lactose-free latte macchiato. I write a lot on my computer, but I can actually jot down quite a few pages in a notebook if that’s all I’ve got on hand.

Do your friends or enemies ever find themselves in your books?

In a way, yes. Their names do, anyway. If I’m looking for a name, I can usually rely on real life friends and fiends for the source.
Do your characters really talk to you?

No, but they talk to each other in my head. And I guess because I write this series in first person, I tend to hear Zadie’s thoughts.

About how long does it take to write a book?

The first and second book took about ten months each to write. But now with all the networking and promotion, my current WIP is taking me a bit longer. I should have been done with my current project three months ago. That said, I’m in the home stretch and should be able to turn it in soon.

Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?

With the help of my sixteen-year-old daughter, I can totally imagine Seven Devils by Florence and the Machine as well as Give Us a Little Love by Fallulah as theme songs for the series.
Do you prefer a bunch of small gifts or one big expensive one?

If the small gifts are books, then I’ll choose that!
Pets?

I have two very demanding Siberian Huskies. They are ten months old.

How many books are in your TRB pile?

Let’s put it this way: There are books I brought home from BEA 2013 that I haven’t read yet. And now I’ve got books from BEA 2014 to add to that pile. (Plus all the books I bought in between.)
What is next on your to read list?

I’m currently reading UNRAVEL ME by Tahereh Mafi and will devour SINNER by Maggie Stiefvater next.
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?

Aha, you’ll have to stay tuned. There are a few things up my sleeve, but I’m not quite ready to reveal them just yet.
